Maria Sharapova can win Australian Open if Serena Williams quits – Wilander

The seven-time Grand Slam winner believes has high chances to win a Grand Slam title again at the Australian Open, but they would decrease if she had to face Serena Williams, who defeated her 19 times out of 22 in career.

Commenting on Eurosport the Sharapovas win over Wozniacki, Wilander said: She is better in defending but not attacking. She is not comfortable going forward, taking the ball on the rise as good as Sharapova. I thought it was possible that Wozniacki was too good and Sharapova too rusty and not comfortable.

We got into a close match, Sharapova was the toughest mentally. We have to rememeber the reason why she has only five Grand Slam, the reason was that she could not beat Serena Williams. Could she win another Grand Slam, maybe only if Serena quits.

said: I always feel with womens tennis that the most aggressive player can win. Maria prepared her plan and it worked. On the upcoming match between Sharapova and Ashleigh Barty, Woodbridge added: Its gonna be an intriguing match.

I hope (Sharapova) keeps going because the tennis world needs her style so much. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
