NXT Newcomer Receiving “High Praise” from Backstage Officials

Former WWE Superstar and pro wrestling’s most beloved dog owner Sean Waltman was backstage at last weekend’s NXT Takeover: WarGames special in Los Angeles, and had a chance to talk to discuss the show on his podcast, X-Pac 12360.

Among the topics discussed, Waltman noted that in talking with individuals who work in developmental, officials are apparently very high on NXT newcomer Jessamyn Duke.

Duke got her career started in MMA back in 2010. She debuted for Invicta FC in 2012 and impressed with victories in her first two professional fights, before moving to UFC where she met future best friend Ronda Rousey as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter.

According to Waltman, the 32-year-old Kentucky native is receiving “high praise” from officials backstage, and is considered a “natural” as she transitions from combat sports to the world of professional wrestling.

That should come as no surprise to most, considering wrestling’s history of MMA fighters making the jump, going back to names like Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn, and all the way to Matt Riddle, Ronda Rousey and NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler.

Duke made her first appearance at WWE Evolution at ringside with fellow Horsewomen Marina Shafir, costing Kairi Sane her title. The two then official debuted at NXT Takeover: WarGames by coming to the aid of Baszler again.

In reality, they have been working NXT house shows on the Florida circuit for a few months now, primarily working with names like Io Shirai, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai, who are some of the best female wrestlers in the world.
