‘Pole Dancing Rat’ steals the show on NYC subway train

Step aside, Chinese Takeout Rat — there’s a new rodent superstar taking the subway by storm.

The Instagram account @SubwayCreatures shared a video Thursday of a rat bumping and grinding on the poles of a Manhattan Transit Authority F train with its 1.4 million followers.

The internet  — following in the tradition of previous viral sensations such as “Pizza Rat” — quickly dubbed this critter the “Pole Dancing Rat.”

The new viral clip promptly spurred Twitter user @Rachelle D’Nae to declare the clip her “Why I’m leaving NY story.”

Actress-podcaster Mindy Robinson clapped back, “Aww, c’mon, that rat is just trying to earn some Benjamins up on that pole. It’s probably a single mom with 8 mouths to feed trying to make her way.”

The video was actually Instagram user @Seebass‘s winning submission in @SubwayCreatures’ “What the L” video contest, in conjunction with Blue Point Brewing. The burgeoning Insta influencer (he has 2,816 followers) won a free MetroCard for one year for his entry.

NYC commuters are accustomed to celebrity rat sightings. In addition to Pizza Rat, who went viral in 2015, there were flashes of web fame for “Pretzel Rat” and “Avocado Rat” in 2017.

Some past rat videos, however, were later found to have been staged. The Post reached out to Seebass for comment.

An interactive map compiled by OpenTheBooks.com tabulates NYC rat sightings reported by calling 311. The non-profit organization, which tracks government spending, reports 17,353 sitings in 2018 — a near 38 percent spike since 2010.

This growth spurt arrives amid Mayor Bill de Blasio’s ongoing battle to curb the the city’s rat population by telling New Yorkers what they already know — don’t feed the rodents.
