The votes are in and it’s official… Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix, known collectively as the Lucha Brothers, have been named the 2018 PW Tag Team of the Year!
Pentagon and Fenix certainly shined as singles stars as well this year, with the man of zero fear entering season four of Lucha Underground as the world champion, and competing against Kenny Omega in a hugely high-profile match at ALL IN, while his younger brother headlined the same event alongside Rey Mysterio and Bandido.
However, it was their work as a tag team, shining at independent promotions all across North America while signing with Impact Wrestling in a major cross-over deal that would see the two quickly become top stars for the promotion.
Whether it’s for The Crash, MLW (where they are the current tag team champions), Impact, PWG, AAW, CZW, Revolver or BAR Wrestling, the Lucha Bros. always came to compete, and they very nearly always stole the show no matter their opponents.
The voting for this year’s Tag Team of the Year award was the closest of all our different categories, with only two points separating the top five teams in contention. Many believed the Golden Lovers, despite only teaming a small handful of times, earned the award with their multiple MOTY candidate bouts, while the Undisputed Era nearly sneaking out the win as well.
Here’s how the voting broke down:
The Lucha Brothers (10)Golden Lovers (9)Undisputed Era (9)Mustache Mountain (8)The Young Bucks (8)LAX (3)SoCal Uncensored (2)
