Rafael Nadal is really close to perfecting his body, says Mats Wilander

In a recent interview, the three-time Australian Open champion commented on chances in Melbourne. The Spaniard last played an official match at last years US Open semifinals against Juan Martin del Potro has dealt with a ton of injuries, hip, knee, foot, thigh.

If hes less than 100 per cent, its not worth him playing in Melbourne, and he wont play if hes under 100 per cent, said Wilander, Eurosport commentator. The problem is, he wont know until hes sat down on his chair during changeovers for the first half an hour, you dont know how healthy you are.

Wilander believes that staying healthy for Nadal will be the key, regardless of how many matches he played in the past months: With Nadal, its not a statistical thing and it doesnt really matter about his form.

Sure, hard courts do tend to beat him up, but the faster court will be an advantage for him, the heat will suit him. So I think Nadal has a chance, its probably his second favourite tournament in terms of playing conditions.

Id be really, really worried about Nadal if I was playing in this tournament if hes fit. Hes rested his body now since the US Open. Hes really, really close to perfecting his body in terms of fitness and shouldnt be written off by any means.
