Remember IAS Topper Tina Dabi Who Was Trolled For Dating A Muslim Guy? She Just Married Him

Last year in February we broke the news of their marriage, and nearly a year later, here they are.

Tina, the 2015 UPSC topper, and Aamir, who bagged rank 2 in the same exam have been in a relationship as long as we remember and now they are married too. The 24-year-old IAS officer who topped the coveted civil services exam tied the knot with 25-year-old Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Saturday.  

Ceremonially, the wedding happened in the presence of close friends and family. The groom’s family hosted the reception in their hometown, in Anantnag’s Mattan. 

The two fell in love when they were undergoing training at the Department of Personnel and Training office in Delhi. They met in the morning at the felicitation ceremony in North Block’s DoPT office and, by the evening, he was knocking at her door. The next she knew, she was in love with him.

“I thank Aamir every day for his perseverance. He is a wonderful person,” Dabi told TOI.  

Dabi is the first Dalit woman to top the prestigious civil services exam in 2015. But this isn’t the only thing that made her famous. Dabi was widely criticised for falling in love with a Muslim man.

People had some really nasty things to say about her just because she fell in love with Aamir.

“It’s as if I have committed a crime by falling in love with someone who is not the same religion or caste as me,” Dabi told TOI. 

It makes us happy to see the two get married despite all the hatred they were subjected to. Love is above and beyond the realms of religion, region and caste, and that’s how it should be. No one deserves to be judged and rebuked for their choice of partner.
