As expected, French tennis star Richard Gasquet has pulled out of the upcoming ATP 500 event in Rotterdam. The 32-year-old has yet to open his 2019 campaign. The former world No. 7 hasnt played since the Paris Masters due to a groin issue.
After being forced to skip the beginning of the season and the Australian Open, the Frenchman made a decision to undergo a groin surgery. Gasquet has played on the indoor hard-courts of Rotterdam six times so far in his career.
The Frenchman debuted at the Rotterdam event in 2009. The 32-year-olds best result in Rotterdam came in 2012, when he reached the quarter-final. Gasquets last Rotterdam campaign didnt go as planned as he was forced to retire his first round match a year ago after just four games played to fellow compatriot Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Following the withdrawal of Gasquet, a place in the Rotterdam main draw has opened for Australian Matthew Ebden. The 31-year-old Australian is set to debut in Rotterdam as he has no previous appearances at the tournament.
The Rotterdam event is due to take place from February 11-17. Meanwhile, Japans Taro Daniel has pulled out of the upcoming ATP 250 event in Cordoba.
