Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee in mid-July, officials said Tuesday.

Rep. Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, announced on Twitter that Mueller agreed to testify in an open session on July 17 in accordance with a subpoena.
“Americans have demanded to hear directly from the Special Counsel so they can understand what he and his team examined, uncovered, and determined about Russia’s attack on our democracy,” Nadler wrote in a statement.
In a letter to Mueller, Nadler and Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff wrote that they “understand that there are certain sensitivities associated with your open testimony. In particular, the Special Counsel’s Office referred several criminal investigations to other officers at the Department of Justice, and certain matters are ongoing.”
But they added, “the American public deserves to hear directly from you about your investigation and conclusions.”
“We will work with you to address legitimate concerns about preserving the integrity of your work, but we expect that you will appear before our Committees as scheduled,” they added.
Mueller completed his investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in April, concluding the campaign did not collude with Russia but not clearing him of obstruction of justice.
At a press conference in May, Mueller said he would not go beyond what was written in the report if asked to testify before congress.
The White House declined to comment Tuesday night.
Trump tweeted hours after the news broke, writing just “Presidential Harrassment!” Trump didn’t specify if he was referring to the subpoena, but he’s employed the phrase repeatedly to describe efforts by Democratic lawmakers to investigate him.
