Roger Federer announces 2019 French Open return!

is set to make his first appearance at the French Open since 2015. It was the Swiss player himself to reveal the news speaking to reporters in French after his four-set loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Its a bit of a desire. Im in a phase where I want to have fun and Ive missed not doing it. I dont feel it is necessary to have a big break again, said Federer. We discussed a lot within the team, everybody agreed, Id like to do what I enjoy.

So Im gonna play Dubai, then Indian Wells, Miami probably also, then Clay, although I dont know exactly where and when. Federer is rumoured to play Barcelona and/or Rome prior to the French Open. He last played on clay in 2016 losing to Dominic Thiem in the Rome Open third round, dealing with back and knee injuries.

The last time that Federer played at the French Open was in 2015 losing to his compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the quarter-finals. Federers decision comes as an unsurprising news in some ways as, in an exclusive interview with Tennis World USA earlier this month, his former coach Paul Annacone had hinted at Federers possible comeback on clay after having a private conversation with him at the Hopman Cup in Perth.
