Ryan, Republicans’ most prolific fundraiser on Capitol Hill, has also cut checks to the reelection campaigns of more than 160 GOP colleagues, the source said. The funds, totaling about $1.5 million, come from Ryan’s leadership PAC, Prosperity Action PAC, and his re-election campaign, Ryan for Congress.

The Speaker’s aggressive fundraising efforts have provided the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) with a huge cash infusion as it works this cycle to fight off Democrats in four special elections and defend its House majority.

Passage of House Republicans’ unpopular ObamaCare repeal and replacement bill coupled with damaging, almost-daily revelations from the Russia probe have election handicappers raising the possibility of a Democratic wave election. Democrats will need to flip more than 20 seats next year to take back the House.

But Ryan’s efforts already helped stave off Democratic wins in a pair of special elections in Kansas and Montana.

Last month, Ryan also stumped and raised cash for Georgia Republican Karen Handel, who’s facing Democrat Jon Ossoff in a closely watched special runoff election on June 20. The House race is the most expensive in history, costing more than $36 million in total, according to an analysis by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This week, Ryan will attend an NRCC dinner with Vice President Pence and swing by fundraising receptions for vulnerable Reps. David Valadao (R-Calif.), Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.), as well as Ralph Norman, the GOP candidate running in this month’s South Carolina special election.

“Ryan continues to help the NRCC fend off Democrats in House special elections and carry much of the political weight for the House Republican Conference,” said a source close to Ryan.

Ryan spent the long Memorial Day weekend fishing with his family. But Ryan was on the road for the rest of the week-long congressional recess on the road in Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee, fundraising for colleagues and touring local facilities.

In Temple, Texas, Ryan made an unexpected visit to McLane Children’s Hospital with Rep. John Carter (R-Texas). At the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., Ryan hosted a $2,500-per-couple fundraiser for Team Ryan, his joint political operation. For $10,000, attendees could take a photo with the Speaker and 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee.

Since Republicans passed the American Health Care Act last month, Ryan held more than 50 events in 13 states to raise cash and defend his party’s repeal legislation.

In addition to last week’s trips to Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee, Ryan visited Arkansas, Indiana, his home state of Wisconsin, New York, Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, Illinois and Connecticut.
