Authorities in Texas continued their desperate search Saturday for a local police chief who was knocked overboard into Galveston Bay by a passing fishing boat.
Chris Reed, a US Army veteran and married father of three, was fishing with his wife when he was tossed in the water by the wake of the larger vessel, ABC News reported.
Reed, 50, wasn’t wearing a life jacket. He hasn’t been seen since 4 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
The US Coast Guard and volunteers have been searching the bay waters for Reed, who has headed the police force in Kemah, Texas, since 2016.
A fellow police chief praised Reed during a news conference on the search, calling him “a great cop,’ the Houston Chronicle reported.
“He was a big part of Kemah and everything they were accomplishing and doing over there,” Texas City Police Chief Joe Stanton said. “He’s one of ours and we’re out there and we’re going to find him.”
