Serena Williams is playing well enough to win Australian Open, says Evert

In an interview to ESPN, commented on straight-sets win over Dayana Yastremska in the Australian Open third round. The 18-time Major winner feels confident about Williamss chances to go far in the tournament.

Serena looked awesome, said Evert. Every part of her game was working, she was moving very well, covering the court. That first serve, she just dominated. Over 70% of first serves in, which is awesome for her.

And her young opponent, at 18 years old, could not handle her serve. Just was missing first serves, going for a little bit too much on her ground strokes. But thats the way Serena makes you play. You are either going to get overpowered, or you are going to play a type of game that maybe is out of your league a little bit.

So a good experience for the young 18-year-old, but Serena looks pretty much on course to win this tournament. I do think she is (playing well enough to win the title). Because I have not seen any other woman player that has played at that level yet.

Now, in saying that, this is still the first week, and sonetimes the tournament starts the second week of a Grand Slam. But if she keeps up the pattern that she is playing, I think that she is going to be the winner of this tournament.

Then Evert referred to McEnroe as they commentated the Serenas match together: You had me on my toes. You brought my commentary to another level. So keep going. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
