Thomas Gilbert Jr.’s ex: He’s ‘off’ but ‘extremely good looking’

The cougar ex-girlfriend of Thomas Gilbert Jr. told jurors Wednesday at his Manhattan murder trial that she knew something was wrong with him.

“He was extremely introverted and oddly quiet,” said Anna Rothschild, who dated Gilbert a year before he allegedly shot dead his hedge fund millionaire dad in January 2015.

“I would Google. Google things like autism or ‘on the spectrum,’ ” she said on cross-examination of trying to figure out his condition. “Something was really, really off.”

During Rothschild’s testimony in Manhattan Supreme Court, she described Gilbert as handsome, socially awkward and mentally slow.

Defense lawyer Arnold Levine asked Rothschild, a 53-year-old CEO of a PR firm, why she kept dating him. “Because he was extremely good looking,” she replied. Gilbert, 34, was not present after refusing to attend much of his trial.

Levine asked, “Were you surprised that he went to Princeton?” She replied, “Yes, because he didn’t seem to be highly intelligent.”

The couple met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in December 2013 and dated for about four months until the relationship ended when Rothschild met a new beau.

Rothschild said that Gilbert told her his father, Thomas Gilbert Sr., was unhappy with his behavior and their relationship was strained.

Gilbert is on trial for the murder of his dad on Jan. 4 after he slashed his weekly allowance by $100.

The defense has argued that Gilbert suffers from schizophrenia and didn’t appreciate that what he did was wrong when he pulled the trigger.
