Trump denies he’s racist in rambling tirade against ‘Squad’

A defiant President Trump on Monday denied that his two-day assault on four freshman Democratic lawmakers was racist — and instead continued attacking them, suggesting that “they might be” communists who should love the US or leave it.

The president also assailed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a racist for saying that he wanted to make America white again.

“They’re very unhappy. I’m watching them. All they do is complain, saying is if they want to leave, they can leave, they can leave,” Trump angrily said about Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, all women of color.

Three of the four were born in the US while Omar is a Somali American who came to the States as a refugee at age 11 and is a US citizen.

“All I’m saying, that if they’re not happy here, they can leave. They can leave. You know what? I’m sure that there will be many people that won’t miss them. But they have to love — they have to love our country. They’re congresspeople.

“So Speaker Pelosi said ‘Make America white again.’ That’s a very racist, that’s a very racist statement. I’m surprised she’d say that,” he said about the California Democrat, who had condemned Trump’s tweetstorm targeting the four, known as “the Squad,” which began Sunday and continued a day later.

He then turned his ire back on the lawmakers, singling out Omar and AOC.

“I mean I look at the one, I look at Omar, I don’t know, I never met her. I hear the way she talks about al Qaeda. Al Qaeda has killed many Americans. She said you could hold your chest out. When I think of al Qaeda, I can hold my chest out,” he said, apparently imitating Omar, though it was unclear what he was referring to.

Omar took heat for once cluelessly referring to 9/11 as “some people did something,” a statement she later claimed had been taken out of context but which Trump brought up again.

“When she talked about the World Trade Center being knocked down, some people, you remember the famous some people,” he said.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slapped back Sunday at President Trump for…

Omar’s defenders pointed out that she was a co-sponsor of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund law.

Trump also ripped her chaotic homeland, which has been wracked by violence and political instability for decades.

“You have somebody that comes from Somalia, which is a failed government, a failed state, who left Somalia, who ultimately came here and now is a congresswoman who’s never happy, says horrible things about Israel. Hates Israel. Hates Jews. Hates Jews. It’s very simple,” the president said, apparently referring to Omar’s criticism of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

He then slammed AOC for her role in stopping Amazon from building a new campus in Queens, which was also opposed by many community leaders and Queens residents.

“One of them kept Amazon out of New York. Tens of thousands of jobs, would have been a great thing. She kept Amazon from going — it would have been a good deal,” Trump said, asserting without elaboration that Gotham had hit the skids since Amazon bailed.

“New York has not been the same since that happened. It’s really hurt New York, and New York City. She kept them out. That was a terrible thing she did, a terrible thing she did,” he said.

The four, Trump argued bitterly, all hate the US.

“These are people that in my opinion hate our country. Now, you can say what you want, but get a list of all of the statements they have made, and all I’m saying, that if they’re not happy here, they can leave. They can leave,” he said.

“I don’t know who’s going to miss them, but I guess some people will.”

He then mentioned Sen. Lindsey Graham’s comment on Fox News that the four were “communists.”

“He said they’re communists. I’m saying — I’m saying that they’re socialists definitely. As to whether or not they’re communists, I would think they might be,” Trump continued, before again telling them to love the US or leave it.

”They’re free to leave if they want. If they want to leave, that’s fine. These are people that hate our country. They hate it, I think, with a passion.”

Trump, a longtime advocate of the “birther” conspiracy who has referred to some African and Caribbean nations as “s–thole countries,” said widespread condemnation of his Twitter attacks as racist didn’t bother him.

“It doesn’t concern me because many people agree with me,” he said before touting the economy and low unemployment numbers and claiming that the stock market would have crashed had he lost the election.

The four reps fired back at the president before his latest remarks, calling his tweets racist and pledging to continue fighting against his policies — with AOC also chastising Trump’s fellow Republicans for defending rather than condemning his comments.

“Until Republican officials denounce yesterday’s explicitly racist statements (which should be easy!), we sadly have no choice but to assume they condone it. It is extremely disturbing that the *entire* GOP caucus is silent. Is this their agenda?” she tweeted Monday morning.

Trump made his remarks on the South Lawn at the 3rd Annual Made in America Product Showcase.

Representatives from companies from all 50 states were there, including Tough Traveler, a luggage and backpack manufacturer from Schenectady, paint company Benjamin Moore of Montvale, New Jersey, and Luke’s Toy Factory of Danbury, Connecticut.
