Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputies rescued the bushy-tailed critter during a drug bust Monday, and also seized meth, drug paraphernalia and body armor, AL.com reported.
Deputies said they are still on the hunt for 35-year-old Mickey Paulk, who lived in the apartment.
Prior to the raid, investigators heard that Paulk kept an attack squirrel inside his apartment and that Paulk “fed the squirrel meth to keep it aggressive,” said sheriff’s spokesman Stephen Young in a news release.
The furry creature was released to a nearby wooden area on the advice of state conservation officials, Young said.
There was no safe way to test the animal for meth, said Sheriff Mike Blakely’s office in a press release.
A man inside the suspected drug den, Ronnie Reynolds, 37, was arrested on possession of controlled substance and other charges.
He was released from the Limestone County Jail on $4,000 bail.
