Church Service Moves To Parking Lot Following Fire At Good Shepherd

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A fire may have destroyed the building that where Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church once held its services, but that won’t stop the congregation from meeting for services this Sunday. The Aug. 4 sermon will be held in the church parking lot at 535 63rd St. at 9 a.m. according to the church’s Facebook page.

A fire broke out in the church Monday, causing a hefty amount of damage and halting traffic on 63rd Street for three hours. Classes had been set to start in three weeks at the private Christian School that was conducted onsite.

The church school’s officials shared a statement about the fire Monday, saying they will keep parents posted as they work to find an alternative location for their academy. They wrote that they were grateful no one was harmed in the fire.

“All school families, PreK-8, be assured that we will send out weekly updates on the plans for moving ahead for this school year. Very soon we will let you know how you may be able to help. In the meantime any prayers will be appreciated. We are thankful that no one was injured in this incident. We know that God has a plan for us.”

Shortly after, a GoFundMe had been started to raise money to help rebuild the church, but the fundraiser had stopped accepting donations as of Thursday.
