FIFA World Cup: Kylian Mbappe Couldn't Win The Title, But His Performance In Qatar Was Epic

Kylian Mbappe was instrumental in France winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Four years on, he nearly did so once again. Mbappe became the first man to score a hattrick in the final since George Hurst in 1966. But sadly, unlike the former, Mbappe could not take his team over the line.

Mbappe did everything right. From 2-0 down he made 2-2 vs Argentina then made it 3-3 from 3-2 down. The youngster also found the back of the net in the shootout but it just was not enough as Lionel Messi’s side won the title.

While Mbappe did not win the trophy, his performance in this edition was out of this world. The man won the Golden Boot and certainly deserved it.

8 goals in 7 games saw Mbappe top the charts and beat Messi who finished with 7 to his name.

The young man is almost 24 and one can expect him to be around for some time. So it will not be a surprise to see similar performances in the future.

Yes, no doubt, Mbappe would gladly give up the top goal-scoring award in exchange for the World Cup but even in 2nd place in the tournament, his contribution in helping France enter the final and stay in it till the very last minute, just cannot be ignored.
