Jewish Federation In NJ Gets Centennial Salute From Lawmakers

NEW JERSEY — The Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ recently got a centennial salute from the New Jersey Assembly and Gov. Phil Murphy.

Last month, lawmakers invited members of the federation to attend a luncheon in Trenton with Murphy and Attorney General Matt Platkin – later presenting them with a proclamation on the chamber floor.

Murphy praised the group for not only advocating for New Jersey’s Jewish residents, but also carrying out other community projects and services, such as helping people impacted by storms, food insecurity and the coronavirus pandemic.

“From feeding families across New Jersey to supporting our senior citizens, the federation plays a critical role in helping our Jewish community amidst the rise of antisemitism,” the governor said.

The proclamation was presented by Assemblywoman Rosie Bagolie and Assemblymen Reginald Atkins, Mike Inganamort, and Gary Schaer, who were all participants of Jewish Federation’s Legislators and Educators Mission to Israel in January.

“This historic milestone for our Jewish Federation honors 100 years of building community and being an integral part of the great state of New Jersey, proudly contributing to its growth and development,” centennial chair Jane Wilf said.

“We look forward to the next 100 years, as we pass the torch to our children and grandchildren, with the hope that our place in American society continues to grow and thrive and become more safe and secure,” president Michael Goldberg agreed.

According to the federation – which is celebrating its 100th year – it is the largest Jewish philanthropy in New Jersey and the eighth-largest federation in the country, serving the Jewish community in Essex, Morris, Sussex, Union and parts of Somerset counties.

Its mission includes “ensuring the continuity and strength of the Jewish People, supporting a secure Jewish and democratic State of Israel, and caring for Jews in need, locally and around the world.”
