LA MESA, CA — An active-duty military member from La Mesa won a trip and more on the Fourth of July Special of “The Price Is Right.”
Boyce Gire, 52, competed in the July 4 episode of the longest-running game show.
“I absolutely love ‘The Price Is Right,'” Gire told Patch. “I grew up watching it as a kid.”

Gire, who serves as executive officer of a field hospital for the U.S. Navy, first got on stage by placing the winning bid of a trip to Redmond, Oregon. He won a three-night stay at WorldMark By Wyndham and a day trip to Crater Lake.
He then went on to play a game called “More or Less, ” winning Yamaha sea scooters, two wet suits, a pool table and accessories, and designer shoes. He lost a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Gire, who has lived in La Mesa for a year, said the show was an “awesome experience.”
His wife initially applied and interviewed to appear on the show. He and his family was in the audience for the episode that aired on May 18. Gire’s son was called to the front but did not make it on stage.
“When we were on the show the first time, I told the person doing the followup interviews that I was active-duty military, and that is when I was invited to come back for the all-military show,” he said.
