JOLIET, IL — Angelica Jauregu and her husband Jose Diaz have opened their second restaurant on Joliet’s east side, specializing in Artisanal Mexican Cuisine.
On Saturday, the Joliet restaurant owners opened Taqueria Los Paisanos #2. Their newest location is drawing positive vibes as people are impressed with their extensive renovations inside 1600 Maple Road.
“We were super slammed on Saturday and Sunday,” Jauregu told Joliet Patch during Monday’s interview. “People were just parking down the street. Lawson’s let us use their lot.”

She said that Lawson’s Garage has given them permission to let their customers park on their property as long as they aren’t blocking business traffic. The new sit-down restaurant on Joliet’s far east side can seat about 75 customers.
Their first Joliet restaurant is at 573 Collins St.

The new restaurant on Maple Road is known for the following specialties: Birria, the $10 Mexi-Cheeseburger, $55 Parrillada meal that feeds two or three people, the Menudo — on weekends only. There’s a $45 taco tray that feeds three people. The regular taco dinner is $13.25 and is served with rice and beans.
“Everything is literally homemade,” Jauregu told Patch. “Everything is made from scratch. We make our own spice blends. We cut our own meat on slicers and by hand. I think our prices are good.”
As for the Mexi-cheeseburger, “we make the patty ourselves,” the owner explained.

She said the desserts are a crowd favorite at Taqueria Los Paisanos. During its first weekend of business, Taqueria Los Paisanos #2 saw customers from Lockport, Plainfield and even Chicago.
“People are spreading the word, which does help,” Jauregu told Patch. “We’re very grateful for the people that supported us on our grand opening. We added a new kitchen, so we have a double kitchen now.”
For takeout orders, Taqueria Los Paisanos #2 on Maple Road can be reached at 815-630-5287. The new Joliet restaurant is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
Patch asked the owner what type of atmosphere her new restaurant aims to project.
“I just want it to feel very friendly and calm,” she said. “It’s a modern farmhouse theme mixed with vintage black and white (photographs) of Mexican artists and historical people.”
