New WWE Women’s title belt unveiled, Charlotte Flair returns

A new WWE Women’s Championship was unveiled on SmackDown, which brought the return of Charlotte Flair.

SmackDown on Friday had WWE official Adam Pearce present Raw Women’s Champion Asuka with a new championship belt, similar to the recent championship Roman Reigns was given on last week’s SmackDown but with a white strap. Going forward, Asuka will be referred to as the WWE Women’s Champion.

This brought out Charlotte Flair, who has not been seen on television since WrestleMania 39. She immediately demanded a championship match. Pearce, who had promised Bianca Belair a rematch earlier in the show, told Flair she would need to get in line. Flair dismissed the idea as Asuka accepted. The two got into a brawl, with Flair avoiding the mist and laying out Asuka with a big boot. The match was later made official for the June 30 edition of SmackDown, just one day prior to Money in the Bank.

Later backstage, after Belair confronted Pearce, he told Belair he’d try to make it right.

The Raw Women’s Championship is the Women’s Championship introduced in 2016, replacing the Divas Championship. A second title, the SmackDown Women’s Championship, was established later that year. That title is currently held by Rhea Ripley.
