PSG’s Christophe Galtier considers devising new formation “to surprise opponents.”

In his press conference this afternoon ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Auxerre on Sunday, Christophe Galtier notably discussed the possibility of deploying a new formation as part of his team’s potential set-ups.

The manager explained that his team had been performing well in a three-at-the-back formation with two wing-backs, but also in more recent games when he has opted for a four-man defence and three midfielders – the only aspect that has remained unchanged is his star attacking trident of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.

Galtier says he is now considering adding another option to his team’s tactical palette, “to surprise opponents” pointing out that his reasoning is not necessarily as a result of the club drawing Bayern Munich in the Champions League knockouts, but rather because they want to “perform better”.

The last few weeks have seen PSG opt for a three-man midfield to some success, with summer recruit Fabián Ruiz – now injured – excelling alongside the previous pivot consisting of Marco Verratti and Vitinha.
