Ravichandran Ashwin – India's Spin Magician Who Is Piling Up The Wickets

Ravichandran Ashwin proved to be the star of the show once again for India as he took 6/91 vs Australia in the Ahmedabad Test. Australia made 480 but it was Ashwin who kept them in check.

The spinner took his series tally to 24 and surpassed Ravindra Jadeja to become the top-wicket taker. Also, the man inched a little closer to the coveted 500-wicket mark, something only 7 bowlers have achieved.

Among Indian bowlers, he is 2nd on the list with 473 scalps.

Anil Kumble tops the charts with 619 scalps and occupies 4th place overall. Among active Indian bowlers, Ashwin rules the roost while he is 4th among active bowlers.

On the overall list, Ashwin is 9th. Nathan Lyon is not too far ahead with 479 victims. They are both racing to reach the 500-mark. It will be interesting to see who makes it first.

Ashwin turns 37 this year so expect him around for another couple of years max. Will he manage to go past Kumble and become India’s top wicket-taker? Not impossible, but will take a lot of effort.

Muttiah Muralitharan’s world record of 800 is too far off for anyone including James Anderson who is 40 and needs fifteen wickets to breach the 700-mark and another 9 after that to beat Shane Warne and take 2nd spot.

What the future holds is unknown, but right now Ashwin is bowling well and enjoying his cricket. So let’s see what happens.
