LONG BEACH, CA — A 65-year-old man was arrested in connection to a shooting that happened in the Carson Park neighborhood early Monday morning, police said.
A shooting was reported in the 6700 block of East Walkerton Street at about 12:41 a.m. When officers arrived they found a man who was suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound in his lower body.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect shot the victim after a brief verbal exchange,” LBPD said in a statement.
A short while later officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him, LBPD said. Officers recovered a firearm during the arrest, according to authorities.

The suspect, who was identified as 65-year-old Douglas Hammond, was transported to a local hospital for an unrelated medical condition, according to LBPD. Hammond was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a firearm in public and his bail was set at $30,000.
